Implementation

CRM implementation without the six-month fog

A phased CRM implementation plan covering ownership, schema, import, training, and adoption, aligned with how SchemaDesk workspaces are set up.

We built SchemaDesk. These guides are our honest take on the CRM category, including where we are not the right fit.

Implementation principles

Ship a narrow system people use, then expand. Perfect schema design on a whiteboard is not an implementation.

SchemaDesk implementations go faster when you install a template or define a few objects, import clean CSVs, and lock default views before inviting the whole company.

Recommended phases

Phase one is core objects and open pipeline. Phase two is relations and hygiene. Phase three is automation and broader reporting.

  • Name an executive sponsor and a day-to-day admin
  • Define objects and required fields
  • Import per object with preview
  • Train on the weekly meeting workflow
  • Only then add automations

Change management

Leaders must update the CRM live. Retire the shadow spreadsheet on a published date. Celebrate clean data, not vanity dashboards.

Common implementation risks

Too many required fields, unclear owners, importing junk, and buying add-ons before adoption all create drag.

Implementing on SchemaDesk

In SchemaDesk, treat template install as a starting seed. Customize fields deliberately, import object by object, then relate records in the workspace after each import is solid.

FAQ

How long is a typical CRM implementation?

A focused team pilot can take days to a few weeks. Broad enterprise programs take longer because of process alignment across departments.

Do we need consultants?

Not always. SchemaDesk is designed for operator-led setup. Hire help when politics or data cleanup exceeds internal capacity.

When should we turn on automation?

After the team trusts stages and ownership. Automating a messy process multiplies the mess.
