CRM migration with CSV import you can trust

How to migrate to a CRM with clean CSV imports, including how SchemaDesk handles mapping, preview, duplicates, validation, and row batching.

We built SchemaDesk. These guides are our honest take on the CRM category, including where we are not the right fit.

CRM migration overview

Most CRM migrations succeed or fail on data quality and sequencing. Export cleanly, import one object at a time, then reconnect relationships in the new workspace.

SchemaDesk supports guided CSV import into an object, with suggested column mapping, preview before commit, duplicate checks, field validation, and practical row batching.

How CSV import works in SchemaDesk

In SchemaDesk, you import into a specific object. Upload a CSV with a header row. The product suggests a column mapping from headers to field names and slugs. You can adjust the mapping before anything is written.

A preview shows sample rows and validation results so you can catch bad emails, required-field gaps, and type problems before commit. Field values are validated and coerced according to each field type.

Duplicate detection flags matches within the file and against existing records, so you can resolve collisions instead of silently creating junk. Imports are batched practically, with a limit of up to 1000 rows per import.

  • CSV import scoped to one object at a time
  • Suggested mapping from headers to field names/slugs
  • Preview before commit
  • Duplicate detection within the file and against existing records
  • Field type validation and coercion
  • Up to 1000 rows per import batch

Relations after import

Do not expect one click to wire every relationship across objects during a single file upload. Import contacts, companies, deals, or custom objects separately, then relate records in the workspace once each object load is clean.

That per-object approach keeps SchemaDesk migrations predictable and avoids hiding link failures inside a giant multi-object import.

Preparation checklist

Deduplicate source rows, normalize emails and domains, remove empty columns, and keep a dated backup of every export before you start.

  • One CSV per object for the first pass
  • Stable unique keys where you have them
  • Clear owners and stage values
  • A rollback copy of the source files

Cutover tips

Freeze updates in the old system for a short window, import open records first, spot-check a sample, then bring historical rows in later batches of up to 1000 rows each.

FAQ

Can SchemaDesk import more than 1000 rows?

Yes, by running multiple imports. Each SchemaDesk import is limited to 1000 rows so validation and duplicate checks stay practical.

Will import create relations automatically across objects?

Not as a one-click cross-object link from a single file. Import each object in SchemaDesk, then relate records in the workspace.

What happens to bad rows?

Preview and import report per-row validation or duplicate issues so good rows can still land while problems stay visible.

Should we migrate closed historical deals first?

Usually no. Migrate open pipeline and active customers first so the team can work, then backfill history in batches.
